Project Picard: Logistics Will Be Simulated. Resistance Is Futile

We auction and distribute millions of plants and flowers every day at Royal FloraHolland. The plants and flowers enter our building, they are being auctioned, and then need to be distributed to the buyers. Part of this distribution is an orderpicking proces. This is a key step which we are continuously looking to improve and optimize, but it is very costly to make and test changes in a live environment. This is why we started building a simulator which mimics our workforce, our buildings, and our IT systems. We use it to develop and try algorithms and process changes without the need to change anything in the real world. This means we can test ideas quickly and make improvements a reality faster! It is an ongoing project, but we'd love to share the work we've done so far! It's pretty cool!
